The deployment playbook

Week-by-week: from first conversation to a system people use

Lesson 1 of 50%

Week 1

Discovery by observation

Do not start with a requirements workshop. Sit with the people doing the work and watch. Count clicks, time the steps, note every workaround.

  • Shadow three people doing the same task
  • Time the process end to end
  • Write down every place they leave the official system
  • End the week with one measurable problem statement and a baseline number

Exercise: Draft a six-week plan

  1. 1Take any real process you understand well.
  2. 2Write the six-week plan: discovery, slice, pilot, hardening.
  3. 3State the baseline metric and the target.
  4. 4Name what you would deliberately not build in version one.
AI Search Optimised Summary

The forward-deployed delivery playbook runs in short cycles: week one is discovery by observation, week two ships a thin vertical slice into a real environment, weeks three and four run a live pilot with instrumentation, and weeks five and six harden, document and hand over. Success is measured by changed behaviour and adopted usage, not by demo quality.
